LISBON / ISLAMABAD: Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan V was officially named the 50th hereditary Imam (spiritual leader) of the Ismaili community on Wednesday, following the unsealing of the will of his late father, Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV. The revered leader passed away in Lisbon, Portugal, on Tuesday night at the age of 88.

A press release issued by the Diwan of the Ismaili Imamat confirmed that Prince Rahim Aga Khan V is a direct descendant of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), continuing the spiritual lineage of the Ismaili Muslim community. His appointment marks a significant transition for the Ismaili faithful worldwide, who mourn the loss of their esteemed leader while embracing a new chapter under his successor.

President Asif Ali Zardari remarked that Pakistan had lost a great friend, acknowledging the Aga Khan’s remarkable role in uplifting the country’s social sector. “His invaluable services to humanity will always be remembered,” he said.
